STEM CELL THERAPY BY THE EXPERT PROF. DR. SCHOETTLE

Prof. Schoettle is not only regarded in Munich, but also worldwide as one of the leading physicians in regenerative medicine and the use of stem cell therapy to support the natural processes of your body in the treatment of injuries, degenerative and chronic diseases. Prof. Dr. med. Philip Schoettle and his team in Munich, consisting of physiotherapists, nutritionists, pain therapists, sports physicians, etc., know exactly how injuries and diseases can affect your quality of life and use the most advanced treatments here in Munich not only to restore your body function but also your metabolism perfectly and to help you to a less painful and better life.

In all his activities in the field of stem cell therapy – in Munich, Zurich, London, and since 2017, in the Okyanos stem cell center – Prof. Dr. med. Schöttle has always attached great importance to accompanying science and precise research in order to enable the best possible treatment – be it in stem cells, PRP or other cell therapies for body rejuvenisation. The precise analysis of your data here in Munich forms the core of a program whose results speak for themselves. The results, which Prof. Schoettle and his team have compiled in Munich from so-called “hard data” such as MRI after stem cell treatment or stress tests after PRP therapy, and the reports of patients, whom we have treated worldwide with stem cells or PRP, show that stem cell therapy as well as PRP therapy and other orthobiological and cell therapeutic forms of therapy should increasingly be seen as an alternative to any kind of an too early surgical intervention.

Prof. Dr. med. Philip Schoettle and his team are able to offer you a new standard of treatment with a medical team of experts here in Munich that includes the knowledge of highly qualified, international and renowned stem cell researchers and other experts in the field of regenerative medicine. In addition, we ensure that at all times, not only here in Munich but also in our worldwide activities, guidelines are observed and clearly defined protocols followed in order to maximize the effectiveness of the respective therapy form and achieve the best results.

If you would be a candidate for a stem cell treatment, which is not yet possible here in Munich, Prof. Dr. med. Philip Schoettle can inform you in any case about the therapy possibilities outside Munich and, if desired, initiate an appropriate therapy and also accompany you and, due to his approval in several countries worldwide, also treat yourself.

ADVANTAGES OF STEM CELL THERAPY BY PROF. DR. SCHOETTLE

Prof. Schoettle has been working since 2013 not only in Munich but also abroad in the field of stem cell therapy and has always carefully analysed his results under scientific aspects. Therefore, he has a high degree of understanding for an ideal indication and the knowledge which kind of stem cell therapy is necessary to generate maximum success.
Due to his international activities in the field of stem cell therapy, Prof. Schoettle knows not only the possibilities of stem cell therapy in Munich but also many other stem cell therapies – their advantages and their perfect indications.

Overall, the advantages of stem cell therapy are as follows:

Stem cell therapy is used to treat weak points in the body that cannot regenerate on their own or with the help of other treatments.

  • No or significantly smaller operation and, thanks to minimally invasive surgery, less swelling.
  • Reduction of the risk of infection due to missing / minor surgery and anti-infective mechanism of action of MSCs
  • Regeneration of damaged tissue (skin, cartilage, tendons, intervertebral discs …)
  • Low complication, fast therapy (within one day)
  • outpatient treatment possible
  • faster recovery
  • Can be combined with a surgery for faster healing
  • Quick return to physical activities

Intensive research in stem cell therapy

For decades, scientists all over the world have agreed on the beneficial effects of stem cells in our bodies. Stem cell research has been successful first in mice and later in clinical studies on patients. The corresponding literature is currently increasing daily.

What is stem cell therapy?

Our body has hundreds of different cell types, each with specific functions such as muscle cells, nerve cells and organic cells. If cells are destroyed or die due to aging, the local stem cells are activated.

Stem cells are a type of cell that can reproduce itself after activation and differentiate into different cell types. In addition, they can positively influence their environment and the communication of neighboring cell types. They can therefore repair, regenerate, and contribute to the formation of new vessels and have a strong anti-inflammatory effect.
Stem cell therapy is a modern and particularly effective form of treatment in which the body’s own stem cells are used in regions of the body that are diseased or whose stock of its own stem cells is reduced.
The success of this stem cell therapy is based on the ability of stem cells to inhibit inflammation and thus enable regeneration.
This is why arthrosis, muscle and tendon injuries, joint diseases and wound healing disorders with severe inflammation react particularly well to this form of treatment.

Wie läuft eine Stammzellentherapie ab?

Prof. Schoettle not only extracts regenerative cells here in Munich, but also in London, Zurich or on Okyanos almost exclusively from fat tissue, which is obtained by liposuction.
Reasons and advantages are obvious:

  1. fat tissue has the highest proportion of mesenchymal stem cells compared to bone marrow and other donor regions..
  2. The removal of fatty tissue from the abdomen, thighs or buttocks has also been standardized in Munich for decades, without complications, at low risk, quickly and on an outpatient basis.
  3. the patient has only few postoperative problems and well controllable pain.

The first step is to find the right indication for a stem cell therapy based on a detailed anamnesis and a precise examination with evaluation of MRI images here in Munich. Only when this has been carried out and the chances of success are sufficient, will the indication be set for intervention with a cell therapy in Munich or if indicated abroad and the patient will be fully informed.

Then, as with every procedure, we prepare our patient perfectly on the planed treatment in the sense of improving their metabolism according to the beforehand performed a blood test. Our patients are also presented to the anesthesiologist since the procedure is performed under anaesthesiological supervision.

The removal of fatty tissue (liposuction) takes place in the regular operating theatre under the strictest aseptic conditions. The patient is monitored by a qualified anaesthesiologist.

Professor Schöttle has the experience of several 100 lipoaspirations for processing regenerative cells here in Munich. In contrast to conventional liposuction, we take a particularly gentle approach to obtaining a high concentration of vital regenerative cells during fat extraction.

For a sufficient number of regenerative cells, between 60 and 150 ml of fat are removed.

The isolation of MSCs also takes place here in Munich in well investigated and established steps.

After the fat tissue has been processed by Prof. Schoettle, the stem cells obtained can be used for treatment on the same day as the fat is removed.

WHAT TYPES OF STEM CELLS ARE THERE?

Embryonic stem cells are the first cells that are formed directly after the fusion of egg and sperm. Embryonic stem cells grow very quickly and can develop into a large number of body cells. Since the derivation of these stem cells has to be seen critically from an ethical point of view for a very good reason, they have no significance in clinical application, but are irreplaceable for research.

UMBILICAL CORD STEM CELLS are stem cells from umbilical cord blood and cord tissue. Since these are stem cells after / at birth, these are also adult stem cells, i.e. they cannot be more or less active / powerful than the stem cells that are obtained at a later point in time. They are mainly used for the treatment of diseases in the haematopoietic system, as they mainly contain haematopoietic stem cells – meaning  blood cell creating stem cells.

Their content of mesenchymal stem cells, which are used to treat typical degenerations of the skin, cartilage, muscles, bones, etc., is comparatively low. Therefore, they are not necessarily suitable for use in orthopaedics,  skin care or  other regenerative fields.

Adult stem cells have already taken a step towards specialisation and can only become certain cell types. Adult stem cells are present in the human body after birth and are responsible for regenerative processes in various tissues and organs. They are present everywhere in the organism to replace damaged or dead cells.

As the local stem cells decrease over the course of life, a young person recovers faster as the process slows down as age increases.

When Prof. Schoettle talks about stem cell therapy in Munich, he is always referring to adult mesenchymal stem cells processed from body fat.

Mesenchymal stem cells are a special form of adult stem cells.

They can be isolated from various tissues, with the highest proportion of mesenchymal stem cells in the fatty tissue.
Mesenchymal stem cells have a high differentiation potential, i.e. they can mature into different cell types. They have a strong anti-inflammatory effect and have a regenerative effect on tendons, ligaments, muscles and cartilage. Especially because of this ability they are helpful in the treatment of arthrosis, wear and tear of the joints and painful, chronic and inflammatory diseases of the musculoskeletal system.
They are also particularly suitable for promoting wound healing, the removal of scars and wound infections.

What does stem cell therapy cost?

The costs incurred can only be determined individually after evaluation of the clinical picture. The expenditure for:

  1. Extraction of fatty tissue (lipoaspiration)..
  2. Processing of fat tissue for immediate therapy
  3. Treatment: The diseased tissue is treated directly with the cells obtained from fat cells.

WHICH DISEASES CAN BE TREATED WITH STEM CELL THERAPY?

Stem cells are used when tissue damage or inflammation is present. Stem cells are responsible for the regeneration and repair of body tissues so that body cells such as connective tissue, cartilage, tendons, heart, nerves and skin are regularly renewed and repaired.

As mentioned above, they are highly anti-inflammatory and can regenerate the affected tissue, so that there is a wide range of indications depending on the type of processing.

Since not every form of stem cell processing can be carried out transnationally without restrictions, not every therapy can be carried out in Munich.

The basic funciton of stem cells is the repair and regeneration by cell replacement. When a specific tissue is inflammated, weakened or damaged, they immediately develop their regenerative effect locally.

The causes of knee osteoarthritis can be very diverse and are influenced by various factors. Knee arthrosis is the final stage of cartilage damage when the bone is exposed. Every form of cartilage damage is associated with an inflammation that has corresponding symptoms:

Pain while weight bearing, swellings and effusions in the joint and in the late stage pain while resting.

By early cell therapy, new healthy tissue can be increasingly built up.

Hip joint arthrosis is the wear and tear of the hip joint. In a healthy hip, the cartilage prevents the femoral head and pelvis from rubbing against each other. Due to overloading or malpositioning, the cartilage can wear out and lead to painful arthrosis. Through the targeted administration of the body’s own stem cells from the fatty tissue, this course of the disease can be stopped at an early stage and, with timely and constant application, in some cases even surgical intervention can be prevented. Very important to ensure a good clinical result, especially in the hip, is to improve the bone metabolism at the same time and to reduce the joint load, most probably by reducing the body weight by an individualized diet.

A frequent cause of shoulder arthrosis is the age-related destruction of the cartilage substance, in which the humeral head and joint socket rub against each other. This leads to joint inflammation with massive pain and limited mobility. Even in the early stages, stem cell therapy can prevent further damage to shoulder tissue through the anti-inflammatory properties of the body’s own stem cells. This means that painful surgical interventions can be delayed or possibly avoided if the trigger is corrected at the same time.

Muscle or tendon injuries are characterized by severe pain, redness, sensitivity to touch and swelling of the affected area or region. They can be caused by accidents or overloads at work or during sport. Stem cell therapy and/or therapy with PRP here in Munich supports the regeneration process of the affected tendons and muscles. We also have to add shock wave therapy and infusions with amino acids to improve the healing process.

Many neurological diseases such as Parkinson’s are life-changing. While some symptoms are difficult to recognize, others can hardly be ignored. In recent years, many stem cell specialists have focused on the treatment of Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, MS etc. with stem cells from the body’s own fat tissue.

After enzymatic processing of fat, these stem cells can cross the blood-brain barrier and enter directly into the nervous system to improve blood flow to the brain and possibly repair some of the nerve damage. This can lead to an improvement in quality of life, among other things:

    • Increased energy
    • Improved gear
    • Better coordination and motoric control
    • Reducing tremors

Although stem cell therapy is not yet a curative remedy against these forms, there is sufficient evidence that this therapy contributes to improving the quality of life and reduces the progression of symptoms.

Are there any risks involved in stem cell therapy?

Stem cell therapy or SVF therapy shows a very high level of safety. One risk of SVF therapy may be  associated with liposuction, which is performed hundreds of times a day. Remember, many people undergo liposuction, not for stem cells, but for cosmetic reasons. Liposuction is therefore considered a safe procedure.
